Athlete of the Month

WHITNEY SPITZER: ASF Leander Athlete of the Month – May 2017

Whitney is the epitome of hard work. She is as dedicated to her training as she is to her school and her puppy, Weebay. Whitney has been training with ASF’s resident powerlifting coach, Dana, for a year now and attend every training session with an open mind and heart, ready to take on the challenge in front of her no matter how hard it may be. This attitude carries through to everything she does in life. She is studying to get her nursing degree and ACC, works full time as an esthetician at the European Wax Center, manages her household and train with Dana at ASF. Needless to say her plate runneth over, yet somehow, she makes it all work.

We asked Whitney some questions about her ASF experience. Here’s what she had to say:

What do you do for work/ in your professional life?
Body waxing, nursing student

How long have you been working out at ASF?
13 months

Why did you decide to join ASF?
Dana was recommended to me by a dude at Gold’s Gym.

What were your goals when you started?
To build strength and perfect my technique.

How close are you to meeting them?
I think I’ll always be chasing those goals.

What challenges have you had to overcome, if any, since starting out at ASF?
Balancing full time work and school was a mental feat I struggled with.

Why do you like working out with Dana?
Her sweet dance moves, obviously.

What is it about Dana/ASF that keeps you coming back?
Her approachable demeanor and that handsome dog of hers, Squat.

What are your goals & plans for the future at ASF?
Hopefully build my strength back now that school has calmed down a bit.

Any advice you’d share with a newcomer to ASF?
Don’t over think it.

Anything else you’d like to add about your experience at ASF or with Dana?
I think powerlifting in general is a welcoming community but everyone I’ve met at ASF has been so reassuring and supportive.
