Athlete of the Month
SPORTS PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHT: ALYSSA CAMPOS
This month, Coach Sierra is shouting out Alyssa Campos, Senior softball player at Stony Point High School. Alyssa and Sierra have an authentic connection that makes them an exceptional team. Through hard work and honest feedback from Sierra, Alyssa is growing into an incredible athlete. We’re looking forward to watching her continue to succeed!
Sierra told us why she chose to highlight Alyssa:
Alyssa is a very talented athlete, but she is one of those that you constantly have to stay on (this isn’t necessarily a bad thing either). As a coach, this is what you need to be able to learn and have that coach’s eye for. I am choosing her because she accepts it for what it is, which is great – that’s having an open mind and a growth mindset, which not all athletes at this age have. She’s very coachable and eager to learn and do her best.
One of the major reasons I am choosing her is because I feel like we click. It’s more than just a coach-athlete relationship that we have, which is what I seek after in all my athletes. We have that authentic bond, so in turn both of us can be honest with each other so we can both grow and make the other better. This is how you grow and become better at whatever you’re trying to achieve.
Sidenote – we found out her grandma worked with my mom before she retired. Small world!
Alyssa is doing great – she has a few more months with me before she heads off to college, and those are going to be some BIG months as I always preach to her, so she doesn’t forget the work that precedes her before she goes off!
Alyssa told us a bit about herself:
In what ways has your athletic performance or physique improved? Since I have consistently started working out, I have noticed many changes in my body and my performance. I have gained muscle and reduced my overall body fat. I’m lifting at a weight that I didn’t know I could lift. This has helped me improve my performance mentally and physically!
What keeps you motivated to keep training with Sierra? Both Sierra and the athletes that I train with are successful. There are a lot of D1 athletes that train with her. Sierra continues to push me to get better everyday.
What are your plans for the future? I am going to play college softball at Lubbock Christian University and major in sports marketing.
