Featured Trainer: Shay Herrera

Cheers to Featured Trainer Shay Herrera!

We are highlighting Shay Herrera, one of the more recent additions to the South Studio. After a career as a chef, Shay fell in love with fitness and changed course to become a personal trainer. At ASF, she works hard with her clients, and in her own training has been successfully rehabbing from a shoulder surgery. We’re so glad she’s on the team!

We asked Shay a couple of questions about her life as of late:

Tell us about a recent personal fitness success:
In the past 3 months I have lost over 4% body fat and gained 7 pounds of muscle! I did this by consistently training 4-5 days a week, eating in a calorie surplus, supplementing with creatine and ensuring a minimum of 100-120 grams of protein a day. This is a big success for me since having shoulder surgery seven months ago. I’ve returned to benching and overhead pressing which I’m really excited about. My shoulder is almost back to 100% and I couldn’t be more elated.Featured Trainer Shay Herrera floating in a pool

Tell us about something you’re looking forward to:
I’m really looking forward to my trip to Mexico next year for my birthday. I can’t wait to surf some waves, snorkel and lift at the Tulum Jungle Gym. It’s a primitive-style gym in which nearly all the equipment is made from wood, bamboo and stone. I’ve aspired of going there since I started as a trainer in 2017 so I’m stoked to finally fulfill that dream!
