Featured Trainer: Mike Chulak

Cheers to Featured Trainer Mike Chulak!

We are thrilled to welcome featured trainer Mike Chulak to the South training team. Mike brings more than two decades of experience as a strength coach and a lifetime of hardcore personal fitness as a martial artist. His passion for fitness is obvious in the way he trains his clients – helping them become not only more fit, but happier and healthier, too.

Here’s a few things Mike told us about his life:

Mike doing Jiu-JitsuTell us about a recent personal health/fitness/training success: Something that I am proud of and consider a success is taking a break from powerlifting-style training and focusing instead on a program that is more tailored to mobility and correcting muscular imbalances. After years of heavy weight training and combat sports, my body was feeling the effects of the chronic wear and tear. Taking a step back from putting up big lifts has put a slight strain on my ego, but my joints feel so much better!  Breaking old patterns is always challenging but necessary for long-term growth.

Tell us about something you’re looking forward to: I’m looking forward to getting my black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Martial arts has shaped who I am as a person and I’m looking forward to that token of accomplishment. Being a black belt to me means much more than just mastery of techniques. It represents showing up consistently, doing the work, and staying the course in spite of the challenges that life inevitably presents.
