Why did you come to Austin?
Beautiful mix of urban living and nature.
What is your background? How did you get into personal training?
I was a healthcare worker who noticed the ramifications of people living a less than optimal healthy lifestyle. I wanted to see if I could become part of the solution. I started teaching group fitness classes and branched into personal training.
Tell us about your current fitness goals and training.
Aerialist at heart. Love being up in the air. For me personally, I focus on building strength, flexibility, and balance. Since I have been exposed to a multitude of fitness activities and sports, I enjoy fusing my favorite movement patterns and incorporating them in my programming. I take a basic functional movement and add my creative twist.
What is the most common fitness myth you work through with your clients?
My clients at the Lamar location tend to think they have to spend hours in the gym to get a good workout and see change.
If you’re in full makeup trying to look cute on the Stairmaster without breaking a sweat then yes, it’s going to take hours!!! On the other hand, if you come in ready to workout with a structured program, keeping your heart rate up and placing your muscles under tension with limited breaks, your body will start to torch those calories.
And most importantly, consistency is key! No one gets fat by eating one burger, no one gets skinny by eating one salad. Same principle applies to working out. Challenging your body and staying consistent will equate to transformation.
What do you want your clients to take away from each training session with you?
Working out can be fun! It can become part of your life and enhance it in so many ways, ranging from better self-esteem to decreasing stress and overall better health.
What sets you apart from other fitness professionals?
I have been exposed to various types of fitness training and activities. I like to infuse what I learn and create exercises based off of solid staples and put my twist on them. With me you will discover muscles you didn’t even know you had!
What is your favorite thing about Austin Simply Fit?
The sense of community within the organization! Plus, we’re a woman-owned business in an industry that’s still male dominated.
Who is your hero & why?
My grandfather! He was my partner in crime. Shenanigans galore. Incredibly sweet, kind and tough as nails! Always treated me and others with respect. When he was around the clouds would part, angels would sing and it was all unicorns and rainbows. He also gave the best bear hugs, squeezing the breath out of you. If I pick you up to hug you, consider it a compliment 🙂
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Catwoman. I know most see her as a villain, but hey, she is a woman werking a killer outfit who demands respect and isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. She whips people into submission, I like to whip people into shape.
